And my heart goes out to these anonymous searchers, because I have been there, too: finished with a good book and looking to read more like it. The frustration of not knowing where to turn next is almost like a physical pain. And so it gave me the idea for a new feature.

You're looking for: big, fat historical fiction with a sexy and/or sci-fi twist.

You might like: Blindspot by Jane Kamensky and Jill Lepore (review), Blackout by Connie Willis (review), Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin, The Sunne in Splendour by Sharon Kay Penman, Revolution by Jennifer Donnelly, and Green Darkness by Anya Seton.

Oh, I would have to say that if you liked Outlander, you would like A Discovery of Witches! Handsome and mysterious leading man, and plucky female heroine. Very chunky, but supernaturally thrilling. Totally got me feeling the Outlander vibe. Great post today!
ReplyDeleteThanks! And great rec!
DeleteIf you liked Outlander, you would LOVE the "Into the Wilderness" series by Sara Donati. I read it after Outlander and was all prepared not to like it as much...and I ended up liking it more. It's awesome.
ReplyDeleteI'd never even heard of this until you posted...I just bought it for Kindle. THANK YOU!
DeleteI would love a feature like this. I know there are sites that do stuff like this but I like the idea of a real reader giving the suggestions.
ReplyDeleteAwesome list.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny the things that bring a person to your blog are usually the last review or thing you would imagine?
I found your blog through Fyrefly's blog listing and clicked because I liked your blog name. I was going to suggest Sara Donati, but I see Abigail already did.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Laurie! I'm actually working my way through the first "Into the Wilderness" book now and loving it.
DeleteAnything by Guy Gavriel Kay fits this category. The Lions of Al-Rassan is particularly good and so is The Sarantine Mosaic.
