A Halloween miracle

I have to admit that once I grew up and decided (was forced to) stop trick-or-treating, I started to wonder about the meaning of Halloween, its whole purpose as a holiday. Going out and being showered with candy? I could understand that. But getting all amped up to stay at home and give it away? Grownups, what is wrong with you?

I don't like skeletons. Or cobwebs. Or contemplating my own death by smearing my face with putrid corpse makeup. Or dressing up like a hooker.

My Halloween heart, like the Grinch's, was two sizes too small.

Until this year, which is my first Halloween with a kid. Now, now I think I finally understand the meaning of the holiday.

The meaning of Halloween is to make someone much smaller than you dress up in a totally ridiculous costume for your own amusement.

Behold! My daughter, the hamburger. THIS is the sight that melted my bad banana with a greasy black peel.

Hey dude! STOP EATING YOURSELF!

Dear Lulu, I might feel bad about this one day. If you grow up to be a vegetarian.

Happy first Halloween!

Love,

Mommy C.

  1. I'm kinda in the "heart two sized too small" place right now. I don't get all excited to hand out candy. We've actually only done it a few times since we've been married. Tonight, with Bart out of town till Thursday, this momma to be doesn't want to handle two scared, protective dogs alone, so we're watching TV and leaving the porch light off.

Next year, we'll at least dress Daisy up to go trick or treating on the square where I work.

  2. That is too cute!

I don't give out candy since I never get trick or treaters. Both when I was in the apartment and now at the condo, zero!

  5. This is Adorable with a capital A! I am in love with this! Enjoy the complete power over costumes you have now … soon she will want to pick for herself. And you get 100% of the candy now too. The magic of Halloween is back.

By the way, LOVE YOUR NEW HEADER! I don't think I'd seen it before!

  6. Thanks, Jenners!

And thanks everybody who complimented Lu's costume. And her cuteness. I was just about to send her back for a cuter one, but I guess I'll keep her now.
